First established in 2002, Republic Polytechnic (RP) had an initial enrolment of just 800. Over the years, RP has grown from strength to strength building our reputation as a tertiary institution of academic excellence. Today, we are home to a lively community of about 14,000 students and more than 1,000 staff.

The first educational institution in Singapore to leverage the Problem-based Learning approach for all its diploma programmes, RP has seven schools offering forty-two courses in Applied Science, Engineering, Management and Communication, Hospitality, Info COMM, Sports, Health & Leisure, and Technology for the Arts.

To support Singapore’s national effort to promote continuous, lifelong learning, our Academy for Continuing Education (ACE) @ RP offers a wide range of part-time programmes.

At the School of Engineering (SEG) in RP, we work closely with the industry and research institutes to ensure that our students are prepared for the future when they enter the industry. As more and more applications involving Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality (AR/VR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) become more prevalent, students also get more opportunities to work on related projects.

This year, a group of students from the Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering worked on a Smart Farm Automation project. Making use of Machine Learning, Convolutional Neutral Network (CNN) and Computer Vision, agricultural produce are classified into different classifiers and the system is trained using Tensorflow API. When produce are placed onto the detection platform, using object detection models, the produce are identified and measured. and assign them to different sales channels. When properly allocated according to its characteristics (For eg: size), the agricultural products will generate better revenues. Sensors are also placed on Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR) that can move around the farm to collect data. The data can then be sent to cloud servers and accessed from any location in the world.
